26. October 2023

On 25 October and 26 October 23, the CBI invited all members to the 10th members’ meeting at the event location DAS LIEBIG in Aachen. The focus of the event was on the presentation of (interim) results of ongoing consortium projects and the initiation of new projects. The personal and interdisciplinary exchange was intensively perceived, so that many exciting and constructive discussions arose.

The event was supported from the scientific side by the Institute of Steel Construction, the Institute of Highway Engineering, the Institute of Strucutral Concrete and the Institute of Building Materials Research (all RWTH Aachen University).

At the beginning, all members and participants were welcomed by Prof. Josef Hegger and Managing Director Benjamin Camps and introduced to current topics and the latest developments of the CBI, the Building Cluster and the entire RWTH campus.

After the lunch break, the participants met in differently staffed project rounds within the framework of their consortium projects. There, the corresponding results of the consortium studies were presented and discussed as well as the further procedure. These included the projects:

Standardisation of prefabricated building construction

Planning aid for prefabricated bridge construction

Serial refurbishment

Sustainability of prefabricated building construction

Joining techniques of reinforced precast concrete elements

PU / DBBD

On the second day, we started with the company presentation of the new CBI member Max Bögl. In addition to an insight into the various business areas of the company from Sengenthal, current challenges in the construction industry were also discussed. We would like to thank Mr. Claus Berndorfer (Max Bögl) for this presentation.

Afterwards, the current consortium projects were presented in the plenum and discussed with the participants.

After a break, the event continued with three very interesting presentations that provided all participants with interesting impulses on various topics away from the everyday business of building. At this point, thanks go to Ms Alexandra Köther from the Center Smart Commercial Building for the lecture ” Increase Real Estate Value”, to Mr Stefan Kasselmann from Forschungszentrum Jülich for the lecture “Living Lab Energy Campus (LLEC)“ and to Dr Dirk Kemper from the Institute of Highway Engineering at RWTH Aachen University for his lecture “Research Projcect SusInfra”.

The ensuing discussion of topics brought much inspiration with regard to future projects. Topics such as

– Costs of sustainability from planning to completion,

– Re-Use: BIM-based evaluation of building components,

– USB plugs for (smart building) building technology in prefabricated buildings,

– Sustainability in bridge construction and

– effects of material recycling on the availability of various building materials.

were put into focus and discussed constructively.

We are delighted that the 10th members’ meeting was able to take place in this form and would like to take this opportunity to thank the team at DAS LIEBIG for providing the premises and the first-class service! We would also like to thank all speakers and participants for their support and, of course, all members (Algeco, ALHO, AMTRA, BASF, BFT Cognos, BOLLE, Cadolto, CMS, Containerwerk, Echterhoff, ELA Container, Eurovia, Filigran, Frauenrath, Hegger + Partner, Heitkamp, Hentschke Bau, Hochtief, KB Container, Kleusberg, Leviat, Max Bögl, Moravia Containers, nesseler, PROCONTAIN, Säbu, Solidian, Swarco and Zeppelin Rental), who have contributed so constructively to the success of the 10th Members’ Meeting on these two days members’ meeting!
