A high level of performance and functionality of the transport infrastructure is of decisive importance for Germany as a business location, especially in times of constantly growing passenger and freight traffic. This functionality is severely limited today and in the coming years by the necessary demolition and new construction of numerous dilapidated bridge structures. It is therefore important to reduce the construction and closure times of these measures to a minimum, for example through the increased use of prefabricated parts and modular construction systems. An important contribution to this is to be made by this consortium project, in which joint assistance is to be developed for all those involved in the construction of modular bridge systems. This should increase the general acceptance of modular bridge construction systems and simplify implementation for all. One focus is on the development of concepts for the promotion of modular construction systems, which are urgently needed by the industry, taking into account issues relating to building regulations, building supervision and public procurement law.

In the consortium project “Practical Guide to Modular Bridge Construction”, the CBI will develop a practical guide to modular bridge construction together with the consortium partners Nesseler, Amand, Hochtief, Echterhoff, Filigran, Max Bögl, Heitkamp, Hentschke and OSW as well as the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV), the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt), the Landesbetrieb Straßenbau NRW, the Deutsche Bahn and the Autobahn GmbH. The scientific side is complemented by the Institute of Structural Concrete of RWTH Aachen University, the Institute of Steel Construction of RWTH Aachen University and the Institute of Highway Engineering RWTH Aachen University.
