Curtain-type rear-ventilated concrete façade with non-metallic reinforcement

The project involves the development of a curtain-type rear-ventilated concrete façade with non-metallic reinforcement. It complements the existing carbon sandwich façade with its simple installation, ecological compatibility and flexible application possibilities in new construction and renovation projects. The aim is to create a robust, sustainable and economical system with large-format elements, practical planning guidelines and ecological-economic evaluation. Partners are nesseler, Leviat and the Institute for Solid Construction at RWTH Aachen University.

The second generation of Eurocode 2 in practice – opportunities and challenges

The second generation of Eurocode 2 brings profound changes for concrete construction: new verification formats, expanded material models and opportunities for more sustainable construction methods. Planning offices and construction companies in particular are faced with the task of adapting their processes – combined with potential for resource efficiency and CO₂ reduction. Together with our partners, we analyse the innovations in a practical manner and develop concrete assistance for successful implementation.

New manufacturing methods in solid construction practice

The project ‘New Manufacturing Methods in Solid Construction Practice’ investigates practical applications for innovative technologies such as automation and additive manufacturing. The aim is to develop efficiently integrable solutions for existing production processes in solid construction – such as the automated manufacture of recessed bodies. In addition to technical feasibility, the focus is on durability, building regulations issues and a gradual transfer into construction practice.

Conducting large-scale fire tests of prefabricated buildings under ETK conditions to prove room closure

In the consortium and research project “Conducting large-scale fire tests of prefabricated buildings under ETK conditions to prove room closure”, which is funded by the Ministry for regional identity, communities and localgovernment, building and gender equality of the land of North Rhine-Westphalia (MHKBD), the CBI will conduct the investigations together with the consortium partners, which are also providing part of the funding, ALHO, CMS, Kleusberg, ALGECO, Bolle, ELA Container, Moravia Containers, SÄBU, Zeppelin Rental, AMTRA and Cadolto. The investigations will be carried out by the Materialprüfungsamt Nordrhein-Westfalen (MPA NRW) and supported by BFT Cognos and the Institute of Steel Construction at RWTH Aachen University.

CO2 – reduction through congestion avoidance

In the consortium project “CO2 – Reduction through Congestion Avoidance”, the CBI together with Echterhoff and Zeppelin Rental will determine CO2 saving potentials using real measures as examples. First of all, traffic effects will be determined and converted into CO2 emissions. The project is scientifically accompanied by the Institute of Highway Engineering
at RWTH Aachen University. In addition, the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) is supporting this promising project.

Energy Generation Infrastructure

In the consortium project “Energy generation and infrastructure”, the CBI, together with Hochtief and Eurovia, will identify possibilities for regenerative energy generation in the area of road infrastructure. Based on this, suitable application scenarios (locations, consumers) will be developed for selected applications and examined with regard to a practicable application (load curves, grid savings, utilization). The goal is the development of economic application concepts. The project is scientifically supported by the Institute of Highway Engineering at RWTH Aachen University. In addition, the Institute for High Voltage Equipment and Grids, Digitalization and Energy Economics at RWTH Aachen University is supporting this promising project.
