Workshop PU-Asphalt and DBBD (continuously reinforced concrete pavement)

Yesterday we finally met again in person during a workshop in the PU Asphalt and Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement project. From the consortium with HOCHTIEF, BASF, SWACRO and FILIGRAN came the wish to extend this by executing companies. For this reason, we also had the pleasure of welcoming representatives of Eiffage Infra-Bau and Eurovia to Aachen. From the scientific side, Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Oeser, his deputy and chief engineer of the Institute for Road Systems (ISAC) Dr.-Ing. Dirk Kemper and the managing director of ISAC GmbH Dr.-Ing. Lukas Renken were present. From the CBI our managing director Dr.-Ing. Carl Richter was on site.

The focus in the morning was on a practical workshop. First, Dr.-Ing. Lukas Renken presented the theoretical basics such as material properties, handling or the practical installation of PU asphalt. Afterwards, the mixing and compaction of PU asphalt was demonstrated live in the laboratory of the Institute for Road Engineering by ISAC employees and the test center manager Dr.-Ing. Christian Schulze. Thereby also an incorrect application with too high moisture was shown.

After the lunch break, the focus was on further concrete steps. For this purpose, open technical questions and resulting next steps were discussed in a workshop. As a result, there will be two working groups. One group will focus on the application on the Autobahn and will also contact Autobahn GmbH for this purpose, and the other group will concentrate on the municipal area and will seek contact with the relevant authorities there.

We are curious to see how this interesting project will develop.
