13. February 2020

On 12.02.2020, the CBI and one of its founding institutes, the Institute for Highway Engineering (ISAC), invited to a workshop on infrastructure requirements for autonomous driving in Aachen at the Invention Center. The initiative came from the two members of the CBI, HOCHTIEF and SWARCO.

Among the almost 40 participants were representatives from the infrastructure side, the automotive side and various authorities, in order to bring together the different disciplines and their views. The moderation took over kindly the FIR interested likewise in the topic.

Before lunch, after the presentation of the RWTH Aachen Campus and the CBI, there were thematic impulse presentations by ISAC, FIR, HOCHTIEF and SWARCO.

After the lunch break, various questions were discussed in a world café at three stations. The three stations were:

  • Infrastructure of the traffic routes
  • Interaction of vehicle and infrastructure (detection and communication procedures)
  • Future role of the road construction load carriers

As next steps, there should be a follow-up meeting with a larger circle (e.g. OEMs, telecommunications, public transport), an exchange with other networks should be carried out, but also concrete consortium projects should be implemented in the CBI in order to take small short-term steps towards automated or autonomous driving.
