28. January 2022

On 25.01.2022, another meeting took place on the topic of sustainability in prefabricated building unit construction. Within the scope of this consortium project, various aspects of sustainability in relation to the special features of prefabricated building unit construction are being investigated together with the partners Algeco, Alho, BFT Cognos, Ela Container, Cadolto, Containerwerk, Säbu, Kleusberg and Zeppelin Rental. After an in-depth inventory and review of the current status regarding the evaluation of sustainability in construction was carried out in the first phase, the second phase could be started in October last year.

The focus of the consortium project is on life cycle assessment, which is an important component of the sustainability assessment of buildings. Within the scope of the investigations, a life cycle assessment comparison between prefabricated building units and solid construction methods will be carried out using the example of a reference building, which takes into account the entire life cycle of the building and the components and materials used.

From a scientific point of view, the project is supported by the Institute of Steel Construction – Research Field Sustainable Metal Building Envelopes at RWTH Aachen University.

We thank the consortium partners for the great cooperation and look forward to the exciting project!
