Last week, HOCHTIEF, which is already a member at the Center Building and Infrastructure Engineering (CBI), visited Aachen. Bernd Holtwick, CFO PPP Solutions, and Dr. Joachim von Lukowicz, Managing Director Transport Infrastructure Europe, took the opportunity to inform themselves about current developments, offers and opportunities at the RWTH Aachen Campus. The vision and strategy to further strengthen the RWTH Aachen Campus as a unique platform for answering relevant future questions was presented by the Managing Director of RWTH Aachen Campus GmbH, Dr. Klaus Feuerborn. The fusion of various scientific disciplines and companies is necessary to solve complex correlation between digitization, automation, mobility, climate change and globalization.

Naturally, one focus was the Cluster Bauen, which consists of the CBI, the Center Construction Robotics and the BIM Center Aachen. Cluster leader Prof. Josef Hegger gave an overview of current innovation projects and current developments in the CBI, for example continuously reinforced concrete carriageways and modular bridge construction. The main objective of the CBI is to increase the productivity of the construction industry. Furthermore, the guests had the opportunity to inform themselves about the current research and development as well as the experimental possibilities of the Institute of Highway Engineering under Prof. Markus Oeser, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and initiator of the CBI.

A basic idea of the RWTH Aachen Campus is interdisciplinary research. For this reason, HOCHTIEF was also very interested in the exchange with the newly initiated Center Multimodal Mobility (Manuel Ebi, co-initiator) and the Center Moblie Machinery  (Prof. Katharina Schmitz, initiator). The successful exchange between science and industry was completed by a tour around the RWTH Aachen Campus.
