Follow-up: Science Link: Networking 4.0 – Trends + Innovations in Construction Industry

As part of the ScienceLink: Networking 4.0 the Center Building and Infrastructure Engineering (CBI) and AACHEN BUILDING EXPERTS e. V. (ABE) had the opportunity to exchange views on the requirements and innovative fields of a modern construction industry on 23 July 2019. The event was organized and hosted by the regional business development agency AGIT mbH.

Following the welcome by Mr. Goar T. Werner, Managing Director of ABE e.V., Mr. Ralf P. Meyer from AGIT mbH presented the ScienceLink initiative to the approximately 40 participants, which aims to connect regional small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with research institutions in the technology region Aachen.

After the presentations of the Cluster Bauen by Prof. Josef Hegger and the CBI by the CEO Dr. Carl Richter, a “best practice” of the cooperation between the nesseler grünzig group and the Institute of Structural Concrete of the RWTH Aachen University followed. Mr. Karl-Peter Arnolds, CEO of the nesseler grünzig gruppe, presented the development project with the aim of developing a complete design concept for a new modular system of precast concrete elements for bridges. This example of close cooperation between industry and science clearly shows the advantages such cooperations offer for both sides.

Afterwards, the participants had the opportunity to discuss the latest developments and fields of innovation in the construction industry with the experts of the CBI in a World Café. The main topics were modular bridge construction, modular building construction and the continuously reinforced concrete carriageway, all current consortium projects of the CBI.

The consistently successful event was an important opportunity for the CBI and the ABE e.V. to strengthen contacts between regional companies and the research institutions of the RWTH Aachen University.
