After the brief introductions of the individual members, the Center Building and Infrastructure Engineering (CBI) would like to introduce the university institutes of the four initiators. The four founding institutes are part of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at RWTH Aachen University, which consists of a total of 23 professorships in the fields of civil engineering, environment, and infrastructure. Another important step in interdisciplinary research in the field of civil engineering was taken by the institutes for solid construction, building research, road construction, and steel construction with the foundation of the CBI as part of the Building Cluster on the RWTH Aachen Campus. In the CBI, you bundle your professional competencies and research infrastructure and thus enable members from industry to convert current trends into market-relevant technologies faster and more efficiently. The new presentation series “CBI presents” starts today with the: Chair and Institute for Highway Engineering (ISAC).

The ISAC – Institute for Highway Engineering Aachen is a research institution and one of the founding institutes of the RWTH Aachen University. The institute, which is managed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Markus Oeser, includes not only research and development in the fields of civil engineering, road planning, operation, and traffic engineering and tunnel equipment and operation, but also competent consulting and planning in the respective fields.  In the course of continuous research and development work, core competencies have developed in the above-mentioned areas, but the focus of all areas is on safety and quality.

In research, the Institute works for various clients, such as EU institutions, federal and state ministries and other public institutions. The topics are often advanced by interdisciplinary cooperation with other departments of the RWTH Aachen University or international universities as well as in cooperation with planning and engineering offices, consultants or industrial and road construction companies.

The ISAC distinguishes itself, among other things, with an independent and by the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) certified calibration laboratory for SRT pendulum devices and outflow meters according to Moore and a material testing laboratory for road construction. The material testing center has an official recognition according to RAP Stra and an approval according to VMPA and is equipped with various testing facilities for building materials such as asphalt, concrete, bitumen and aggregates.
