19. May 2022

On 16.05. and 17.05.22 the CBI invited all members to the 7th members’ meeting at the event location DAS LIEBIG in Aachen. The focus of the event was on the presentation of (interim) results of ongoing consortial projects, the initiation of new projects and the introduction of the CBI to external guests. The personal and interdisciplinary exchange between the members and the CBI was made possible and intensively perceived under arrangements of a 3G regulation. From the scientific side, the Institute of Steel Construction, the Institute of Highway Construction, the Institute of Structural Concrete, the Institute of Building Materials Research, the Geodetic Institute as well as theInstitute of Sustainability in Civil Engineering (all RWTH Aachen University) supported the event.

At the beginning, all members and participants were welcomed by Prof. Martin Claßen and Managing Director Dr.-Ing. Carl Richter and introduced to current topics of the CBI.

Interrupted by a lunch break, the participants met in different meeting rooms within the framework of their consortium projects. There, the corresponding results of the consortium studies were presented and discussed. These included the projects:

  • Sustainability Prefabricated Building Units
  • Standardisation Prefabricated Building Units
  • Practical guide to modular bridge construction
  • Polyurethane asphalt on continuously reinforced concrete pavement
  • Optimisation of sandwich facades with concrete deck layers
  • Sustainability assessment of transport infrastructure out of town
  • Clinker-Reduced Binders
  • Connection techniques of reinforced precast concrete elements

After the presentations within the project consortia, we started with our “World Café”. Here, our participants were allowed to take the opportunity to take part in various topic discussion sessions. In each session, moderators were available to answer questions and performance vouchers could be placed on the individual topics.

On the second day of our members’ meeting, the CBI welcomed additional external visitors who were able to gain an insight into the activities of the CBI.  Furthermore, the three CBI members bft-COGNOS, cadolto and ECHTERHOFF were given the opportunity to introduce themselves and to address current challenges in the construction industry. We would like to thank Mr Georg Spennes (bft-COGNOS), Ms Laura Tyrach (cadolto) and Mr Thomas Echterhoff (ECHTERHOFF) in particular for these presentations.

Afterwards, the various projects were presented and discussed with the participants. The following projects are to be mentioned here as examples:

  • Research project Carrying out large-scale fire tests of prefabricated buildings under ETK conditions to prove room closure
  • RoMaSys: Detection of microplastic emissions from road markings
  • Energy generation infrastructure

We are pleased that the 7th members’ meeting could take place in this form and would like to take this opportunity to thank the location DAS LIEBIG for providing the premises and the first-class service! Furthermore, we would like to thank all speakers and participants for their support and, of course, all members (ALGECO, AMTRA, BASF, bft COGNOS, BOLLE, cadolto, ECHTERHOFF, EIFFAGE Infra-Bau, ELA Container, EUROVIA, FILIGRAN, HEITKAMP, HOCHTIEF, Kleusberg, Leviat, nesseler, ProContain, RÖHM, SEH Engineering, swarco and ZEPPELIN Rental), who contributed so constructively during these two days!
