13th member meeting of the CBI – Successful exchange in Aachen
The 13th members’ meeting of the CBI took place on 7 and 8 May 2025 at the Campus Conference Center in Aachen. In addition to the presentation of current results from ongoing consortium projects and the development of new project ideas, the focus was on one thing in particular: personal, interdisciplinary dialogue. The active participation of the members led to numerous exciting and constructive discussions – both in the project meetings and in conversations on the sidelines.
Welcome and insight into current developments – Day 1
The event kicked off with a welcome from Managing Director Benjamin Camps, who brought the participants up to date on the latest developments within the CBI, in the Construction Cluster and on the RWTH campus.
Project rounds and consortium work
In the afternoon, the participants delved deeper into their consortium projects. Interim results were presented, discussed and next steps agreed in mixed working groups. The projects included, among others:
- Standardisation and fire tests prefabricated buildings
- Planning guide for modular bridge construction
- Functional composite construction: Polyurethane asphalt on continuously reinforced concrete pavement as a functional composite structure
- Sustainability Prefabricated Building Units
- Ventilated concrete curtain wall façade
Scientific support for the entire event and the consortium meetings was provided by the Institute of Steel Construction, the Institute of Highway Engineering, the Institute of Structural Concrete and the Institute of Building Materials Research – all part of RWTH Aachen University.
Company impulses, guest lectures and new project ideas – Day 2
The second day of the CBI members’ meeting began with exciting company presentations by the two members Eurovia/VINCI Construction and HOCHTIEF. Special thanks go to Jan Zobel and Dr Nicolas Carreño (both Eurovia/VINCI Construction) and Dr.-Ing. Joachim von Lukowicz (HOCHTIEF) for their contributions and the very interesting insights into the various fields of work of the respective companies.
This was followed by three external guest lectures:
- Dr. Mareike Neumann (Campus GmbH)
- Alexander Obladen (Center Factory Planning)
- Tobias Vonderbank (Center Mobile Machinery)
We would also like to thank them for their valuable input and overview of other topics on the RWTH Aachen Campus!
